Hosting (also known as Web site hosting, Web hosting, and Webhosting) is the business of housing, serving, and maintaining files for one or more Web sites.

A web site is stored in a folder on a server called a hosting server or host. The folder holds the "build files" of the web site so they can interact with the "program files" of the server held at other locations. The server then serves them to the World Wide Web via the Internet and you see them in your browser.

The size of your site is called data storage and that is the amount that you can fill up with files similar to a hard drive size. The amount of files served out (requested by users) to the Internet is called data transfer.

A busy site may require a dedicated server however most companies can benefit from sharing resources on a server using a VPS (Virtualk Private Server) array. A VPS array is a collection of independant partitions on a servers hard drive that act as indivicual, unrelated, hosting servers yet share the same processor, power source and memory. Typically, an individual business hosting its own site would require a similar connection and it would be expensive. Using a hosting service lets many companies share the cost of a fast Internet connection for serving files

More important than the computer space that is provided for Web site files is the fast connection to the Internet. Redundant telecommunications paths into the local fiber optics infrastructure are buried around our Data Center. If a cable is cut or an earthquake disrupts fiber on one side of the building, a redundant path exists on the other side. Tier 1 connections to the Internet backbone are available through multiple gigabit Ethernet connections with scalability to OC-48 and beyond. We are peered with Verizon, XO, Global Crossing, Level 3, and ELI. In addition, a private microwave communications network provides options for backup transmission. All these things ensure premium bandwidth and the highest availability possible for each of our clients.
